10:15 Welcome and introductions. Horses monitored for standing quietly near trailers.
10:30 Bring Horses to arena with halter, 6’+ lead rope and carrot stick. Intro to Horse behavior—why they do what they do. How to modify the horse’s behavior for control and safety
10:40 Handling and ground exercises to teach the horse to respond rather than to instinctively react to course obstacles. Learning to direct the horse’s movements (forward, backward, front end, rear end) Training techniques (ask, tell, demand)
11:00 Break. Q&A
11:15 Participants learn methods to move their horses to increase control over them. Trailer Loading by request.
11:45 Participants practice methods of desensitizing their horses to the rope and other stimuli on the body from the ground and overhead.
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Participants saddle up (when ready), Continue where we left off before lunch. repeat the previous stimuli while riding. Formation exercises. (lead, middle, follow. Spacing and pace. Using herd behaviors to your advantage.
2:45 Trail riding safety and self defense tips.
3:00 Hoofball / Soccer
4:00 Question/answer session. Adjournment.
Search and Rescue Teams attending will participate in a MSAR exercise starting at 5pm.
